The Captain Kidd Pirate Ship Experience is a UK registered charity creating interactive living-history experiences centred on maritime heritage, traditional skills and the story of Captain Kidd. Its aim is to build three working replicas of Kidd’s square-rigged ship, the Adventure Galley. The new Adventure Galley is planned to sail internationally, retracing Kidd’s voyages while carrying passengers and cargo. Two further ships are intended to operate daily on the River Thames from Greenwich.
Voyages will invite passengers to take part in life aboard a traditional sailing ship, including setting sails and learning seamanship, ropework, rigging, knots, splicing and related crafts. The initiative also seeks to revive traditional shipbuilding, provide practical opportunities for young people and Sea Cadets, and celebrate shared maritime and cultural heritage.
The charity welcomes individuals, groups, schools, charities and businesses. Its activities are intended to include sailing trips, skills days, educational visits and corporate events, alongside opportunities for sponsorship and donations. Supporters may also be able to join maiden voyages.
