Pirta is a climate-focused materials company developing passive-cooling technology for a low-carbon world. Its flagship product, Nivi, is a high-performance, plant- and polymer-based titanium dioxide (TiO2) extender designed for coatings. The company says Nivi can replace at least half of the TiO2 used in paint, while delivering stronger cooling performance than existing extenders and reducing embodied carbon by 80% compared with traditional pigment technology.

Pirta’s reflective coatings are designed to lower surface temperatures by 5–10°C compared with traditional white coatings, potentially reducing air-conditioning costs by up to 15%. The company also reports surface-temperature reductions exceeding 40°F in performance claims and a 69°F decrease during a pilot project with Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces. Its solutions are intended for applications including shipping, cryogenic storage, architecture, engineering and construction, and education. Pirta provides information on how its technology works and offers an energy-savings estimation tool. In collaboration with the University of Leeds, it is submitting Nivi technology to academic peer review, with publication expected in late 2026.
