About Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency International Alliance
The Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency International Alliance (PKDIA) is a global nonprofit public charity dedicated to improving the quality of life of people living with pyruvate kinase deficiency (PKD) and their families. Founded by patients and caregivers, the organization works to raise awareness, expand access to reliable information, and advocate for accessible, affordable treatment options. Its resources serve patients, caregivers, families, and healthcare professionals.
PKDIA provides evidence-based education, including international guidelines, videos, and links to current research and clinical trial information. Its advocacy resources help people navigate healthcare decisions, consider provider options, and seek treatment. The Alliance also conducts community surveys and questionnaires, reviews scientific literature, and develops research intended to deepen understanding of how PKD affects individuals and inform advocacy.
Community involvement is central to its work. PKDIA is developing a Community Advisory Board and collaborates with clinicians through a Medical Advisory Board, as well as with organizations supporting people affected by rare anemia and other rare diseases.
