Planet Youth Mississauga is a community-based youth substance-use prevention initiative working to support the wellbeing of young people across Mississauga and Peel. It is a pilot project of the Public Health Agency of Canada’s Youth Substance Use Prevention Program, testing how the Icelandic Prevention Model can be adapted to a diverse urban setting in Canada. The initiative brings together youth, schools, agencies, families and community partners to support prevention programs and strengthen conditions that promote youth wellbeing.

Its work focuses on three Mississauga communities: Cooksville, Erin Mills and Meadowvale, each served by a Community Action Team. Through collaboration and community involvement, Planet Youth Mississauga aims to apply a model developed over three decades to local needs. The project also provides opportunities for youth voices and community connection through events and ways to get involved.

Its approach recognizes the importance of working respectfully on the traditional lands of Indigenous Peoples and commits to honouring the land and its First Peoples
