About Plant Based Folk
Plant Based Folk is a recipe and food resource founded by Janelle Hama, a Lebanese Australian cook based in Sydney. The brand celebrates everyday Lebanese home cooking as naturally plant-forward, sharing dishes that honor traditional flavors and methods rather than simply “veganizing” heritage food. Its recipes are designed to be approachable for weeknights, with adaptations where useful while staying as close to family and cultural traditions as possible.
The website offers a broad collection of Lebanese and other plant-based recipes, including mujadara, loubieh b’zeit, bamia, falafel, soups, salads, curries, stuffed vegetables, rice dishes, and Lebanese sweets such as maamoul, atayef, and namoura. It also features baking recipes, side dishes, snacks, pasta, and desserts, alongside food guides and practical articles on topics such as falafel preparation and gluten-free ingredients. Plant Based Folk provides a searchable recipe index, newsletter, and free Lebanese pantry guide, and also shares kitchen essentials. Through her recipes and cooking guidance, Janelle introduces readers to the flavors and everyday meals of her Lebanese heritage.
