Planteome is a pioneering international collaborative initiative dedicated to advancing plant biology research through the standardization and integration of data. It focuses on comparative analyses of diverse plant datasets, encompassing transcriptomics, proteomics, phenomics, and genome annotations. By addressing the challenges posed by the disparate locations and varying vocabularies associated with plant data, Planteome facilitates a more cohesive understanding of gene expression and its relation to phenotypes and molecular functions.

The project employs a dual strategy: it either harmonizes annotations with common reference vocabularies, known as ontologies, or consolidates data in a centralized repository to eliminate conflicting descriptions. This collaborative effort extends to partnerships with numerous national and international initiatives, enhancing the development and enrichment of plant-specific ontologies. Planteome not only aids researchers in navigating complex datasets but also fosters semantic interoperability among various databases like Gramene and PlantEnsembl. Supported by the National Science Foundation and committed to open access, Planteome is a vital resource for researchers in plant biology.
