About Plastic People Documentary
Plastic People is the brand behind an award-winning feature documentary examining society’s dependence on plastic and the emerging health concerns linked to microplastics. The film follows science journalist and author Ziya Tong as she meets leading scientists around the world and investigates plastic particles in the environment, food, and human body. Directed by Ben Addelman and co-directed by Tong, the documentary explores research finding microplastics in places including blood, organs, brain tissue, and placentas, while asking what these discoveries may mean for human health and what can be done in response.
Beyond the film, Plastic People supports public engagement through an impact campaign designed to encourage a broader conversation about plastic and health. Developed with partner organizations, the campaign includes events, educational materials, and calls to action. The project’s website also provides information about the documentary, its team, educational opportunities, and ways for audiences to get involved. Together, the film and campaign aim to help viewers reconsider their relationship with plastic and engage with possible solutions to this environmental and health issue.
