Established in 2003, their mission is to provide pathways for young New Zealanders to explore their musical talents by offering programs, competitions, and resources. One of their main initiatives is their songwriting competitions, where finalists have the opportunity to record their songs in professional studios and have them released on a digital album.

Play It Strange also organizes concerts, workshops, and informative events to create an environment where students can develop confidence, self-belief, and pursue their musical careers. The trust is supported by a dedicated Board of Trustees, consisting of individuals who bring their expertise in various fields such as business, finance, and social media.
