Plaza Jewish

Plaza Jewish Community Chapel is a nonprofit funeral chapel in New York City, owned and operated by the Jewish community as a service rather than a business. Its mission is to provide dignified, respectful Jewish funerals, offer compassionate support to bereaved families, and reduce funeral costs by avoiding a profit-driven model. Based at 630 Amsterdam Avenue, Plaza serves congregations across the New York metropolitan area, including New Jersey and Connecticut, and can arrange services in synagogue sanctuaries where permitted.

The chapel provides funeral arrangements and preparation, services for families facing an immediate loss, pre-planning, green burial services, and assistance with monuments and inscriptions. Its staff can help families shape meaningful arrangements at their own pace. Plaza also offers bereavement support groups and resources for end-of-life planning, Jewish observances, and grief, including educational programs, conferences, a podcast, and practical tools such as yahrzeit calendars and candle-lighting information. Through community outreach, grants, and partnerships, Plaza connects families with additional support and resources.
