About Plazi
Plazi is a not-for-profit organization based in Bern, Switzerland, founded in 2008 with a mission to enhance the accessibility of scientific data, particularly concerning taxonomic literature. The organization is dedicated to the development of a persistent and openly accessible digital repository that archives taxonomic treatments, ensuring that such critical scientific information remains free and available to the public. Plazi not only maintains this repository but also enhances the submitted taxonomic treatments by creating standardized XML versions, like TaxonX and Taxpub, to facilitate interoperability with various biodiversity resources.
Advocating for open access to scientific discourse, Plazi engages in educational efforts to highlight the importance of freely available data. Furthermore, it partners with a variety of organizations, including Zenodo and GBIF, to broaden the impact of its initiatives. With over 15 years of contributions to the field, Plazi plays a vital role in fostering a better understanding of global biodiversity through accessible knowledge and innovative publishing models
