About Plazi
Plazi is a non-profit organization based in Bern, Switzerland, founded in 2008 with a mission to promote the free accessibility of scientific data, particularly taxonomic treatments and images. They support and advocate for the development of persistent and openly accessible digital taxonomic literature. Plazi maintains a digital taxonomic literature repository, enabling the archiving of taxonomic treatments.
They enhance submitted treatments by creating TaxonX and Taxpub XML versions. Additionally, Plazi actively participates in the development of new models for publishing taxonomic treatments to enhance interoperability with relevant cyber-infrastructure components such as name servers and biodiversity resources. As part of their mission, Plazi emphasizes the vital importance of maintaining free and open access to scientific discourse and data.
They collaborate with various partners including Zenodo, GBIF, Pensoft, and others. Through ongoing and past projects, Plazi continues to contribute to the accessibility and understanding of global biodiversity. They offer lectures, publications, and various services related to data, API, and tools.
