Practical Martial Arts is a family-run dojo in Corte Madera, California, serving Marin County since 1993. Owned and led by Mike and Karen Valentine, the school focuses on developing competence, character, and community through martial arts training for adults, teens, and children. Its programs welcome complete beginners as well as experienced students, with an emphasis on fitness, focus, confidence, practical skills, and a respectful, supportive training environment.

Adults can train in Combatives, MMA, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Muay Thai. Classes cover skills including boxing, kickboxing, grappling, clinch work, takedowns, sparring, and self-defense. Teen programs offer age-appropriate training in MMA, BJJ, Muay Thai kickboxing, and self-defense, with teens learning alongside peers. Children’s classes begin at age four and include Little Dragons for ages four to six and Beginner Kids for ages six to twelve, combining martial arts fundamentals with discipline, courage, and fun.

Practical Martial Arts also runs summer Ninja Camps for children in grades one through six.
