The Palestinian Meteorological Authority (PMA) has a rich history dating back to 1923, when weather observations began under British occupation. Over the decades, the PMA evolved significantly; post-1948, it transitioned from Jordanian and Egyptian oversight to becoming an independent authority in 1994 under the Palestinian National Authority. This transition included extensive training for local meteorologists and the establishment of a comprehensive weather station network across the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
By 1999, the PMA became a member of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and expanded its services, including the enhancement of weather data collection with advanced technologies such as satellite imagery and ground stations. The PMA offers a wide range of services, including climatic data, weather forecasts, rainfall measures, and meteorological education. Its ongoing efforts to train staff and upgrade equipment solidify its role in providing accurate and timely weather information, essential for agriculture, disaster management, and daily life in Palestine.
