About PMF札幌
Pacific Music Festival Sapporo (PMF) is a prestigious international educational music festival founded in 1990 by the renowned conductor Leonard Bernstein. Located in Sapporo, Japan, PMF aims to nurture the next generation of classical musicians from around the globe. Over its 30-year history, the festival has produced approximately 3,800 talented artists from 78 countries, establishing itself as one of the leading educational music festivals alongside Tanglewood and Schleswig-Holstein.
The core of PMF is the PMF Academy, where exceptional young musicians aged 18 to 29 come together for intensive training, guided by world-class faculty. Each summer, participants engage in orchestra rehearsals, chamber music sessions, and individual lessons, culminating in performances by the acclaimed PMF Orchestra. In addition to educational programs, PMF emphasizes community outreach through concerts that bring music to diverse audiences, including children’s educational workshops.
PMF not only enriches participants’ musical expertise but also fosters international friendships through the shared language of music, as it continues Bernstein's legacy of promoting education and peace through music.
