Its work includes disaster preparedness and response, first-aid services, community-based disaster readiness, volunteer development, youth Red Cross activities, and fundraising for humanitarian needs. The organization also operates blood-donation services, shares information on blood stocks and blood products, coordinates voluntary and apheresis donations, and supports donor registration and mobile blood drives.

Blood supplied to patients is screened for blood group, Rhesus factor, HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B and C; patient charges cover processing and related supplies rather than the blood itself. PMI Kota Semarang’s health services include general, dental, and ear, nose, and throat clinics, international vaccination, thalassemia care, physiotherapy, ambulance services, and medical teams for events.
