About POCOMAR
POCOMAR, the Port Colborne Marine Auxiliary Rescue, is a dedicated brand committed to preserving life and property in the waters surrounding the Port Colborne area. As a registered charity and independent corporation, POCOMAR works hand in hand with the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary (CCGA) to provide essential search and rescue services. With a mission to save 100% of lives at risk through marine search and rescue, POCOMAR strives to maintain a strong community presence while promoting marine safety and accident prevention.
POCOMAR operates year-round, with dedicated Search and Rescue (SAR) crews available 24/7 during the boating season. Led by experienced crew coxswains or captains, these crews undergo rigorous training and possess well-equipped SAR vessels and equipment. Additionally, POCOMAR conducts classroom training during the winter months for its volunteers and actively participates in various community events throughout the boating season and off-season.
Furthermore, POCOMAR emphasizes the importance of individual responsibility and encourages boaters to prioritize safety and preparedness. They offer complimentary boarding safety checks and provide essential tips, including obtaining a Pleasure Craft Operator's Card (PCOC), taking boarding courses, ensuring required safety equipment is on board, and staying informed about weather conditions. Support POCOMAR in their mission to promote marine safety, save lives, and protect our community's waters.
