The Polar Data Catalogue (PDC) is a Canadian repository that helps researchers and the public discover and access metadata and datasets from Arctic and Antarctic research. A CoreTrustSeal-certified service, it covers disciplines ranging from natural sciences and policy to health and social sciences. Its metadata follows ISO 19115 and Federal Geographic Data Committee standards, supporting exchange with other data centres.
The PDC offers online tools for searching, visualizing, submitting, and exploring research information. Users can browse records through the Metadata Explorer and interactive PDC Explorer, access a dedicated discovery tool for Nunavut General Monitoring Plan records, and harvest metadata through an API available in JSON and XML formats. Help materials and video tutorials support users in contributing and finding data.
Created by the Canadian Cryospheric Information Network (CCIN) with collaborators and partners, the catalogue is hosted by the University of Waterloo. It is also part of the Canadian Polar Data Consortium, a collaboration working to improve information discovery, sharing standards, and interoperability across Canadian Arctic data repositories and other data infrastructures.
