Polar Expedition Training (PET) provides preparation, mentorship, and practical guidance for people aspiring to explore polar regions or ski to the South Pole. Led by Hannah McKeand and supported by experienced instructors, the organisation combines classroom learning with hands-on training to help participants build confidence and develop skills for demanding cold-weather journeys.
Its flagship course is a two-week programme in Finse, Norway, designed for novice and intermediate adventurers. The first week blends technical instruction, expedition planning, navigation, ski practice, and cold-weather tactics; the second puts those skills into practice on a mini expedition. Participants learn through real-world experience, including setting up camp, hauling a loaded pulk, and managing challenging terrain and conditions. The course is designed to help students assess their readiness and prepare for future polar goals.
PET also offers introductory backcountry cross-country skiing, bespoke training, and expedition consultation. Its website provides course dates and rates, application and medical forms, reviews, news, student achievements, and alumni resources.
