POLARIS

Stowarzyszenie POLARIS-OPP is a Polish association dedicated to astronomy, science education, and the protection of dark skies and the natural night environment. Based in Sopotnia Wielka, it brings together educational, observational, ecological, technical, and community initiatives. Its programs include “Przybliżmy Dzieciom Niebo” (Bringing the Sky Closer to Children), the Wypadowa Grupa Wykładowa lecture group, and the Ciemne Niebo (Dark Sky) initiative.

The association offers engaging ways to explore science through observation, events, and hands-on learning. Its activities include astronomy meetings with telescopes, workshops, lectures, camps, and the annual Dark Sky Festival, which combines stargazing with discussion of light pollution and the value of natural darkness. Its mobile Discovery Space Station is an interactive, one-third-scale orbital-station model used for astronomy, astronautics, and STEAM education. In touring exhibitions, it can be paired with large planetary models and workshops featuring experiments and augmented reality. POLARIS-OPP also develops educational facilities and projects, including a virtual dark-sky observatory and the ASTROMETEO teaching and measurement station, helping audiences connect scientific ideas with direct experience.
