About Polar Music Prize
Polar Music Prize, founded in 1989 by the late Stig Stikkan Anderson, is a prestigious and unique music prize that recognizes exceptional achievements in the world of music. Anderson, known as the publisher, lyricist, and manager of ABBA, played a pivotal role in their monumental success. The prize gets its name from Anderson's legendary record label, Polar Music.
Crossing over musical boundaries, the Polar Music Prize is awarded to individuals, groups, and institutions that have made significant contributions to the field. Music knows no boundaries; it touches, influences, and changes the world. Anderson's vision of endowing the world's biggest music prize has become a reality with the Polar Music Prize.
The endowment, managed by the Stig Anderson Music Award Foundation, aims to reward extraordinary achievements in music while providing a unique platform for artists with diverse musical backgrounds. Each year, Laureates from various countries and continents receive the prize in Stockholm from HM King Carl XVI Gustaf. From its inception to the present day, the Polar Music Prize continues to celebrate and honor the magic of music
