The Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) is an ambitious public-private partnership aimed at eradicating polio worldwide. Launched in 1988 following a World Health Assembly resolution, GPEI combines efforts from national governments and key organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), Rotary International, the CDC, UNICEF, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. Since its inception, the initiative has achieved a remarkable 99.9% reduction in polio incidence and has transformed the lives of millions, enabling 16 million individuals to walk who might otherwise have faced paralysis.

The Polio Toolkit is a critical resource within this framework, offering a web-based repository filled with social and behavior change (SBC) and communication resources. It serves to foster collaboration among GPEI partners and frontline workers, emphasizing strategies to counter misinformation and enhance community engagement. Additionally, the toolkit provides guidance for the introduction of the novel oral polio vaccine (nOPV2), playing a vital role in the continuing effort to eliminate the final traces of polio.
