PenUltima Online (POL) is an open-source emulator project for creating and running private Ultima Online worlds. Developed for more than 12 years, POL supports many features associated with Ultima Online: The Second Age through Ultima Online: Mondain’s Legacy. Its focus is flexibility and customization, giving server creators tools to shape a world to suit their needs.
The emulator includes eScript, a scripting language intended to be approachable for newcomers while supporting complex custom features. Users can begin with the Distro, a complete set of gameplay scripts designed to be modified or expanded, or use bare-bones scripts to build a world from scratch. Additional capabilities include packethooks for extending core functions, a unified emulator core, and a virtual machine that runs scripts with greater security.
POL provides online and downloadable documentation, source code, downloads, and community forums where users can seek advice and share information. The project recommends starting with the latest core release and its associated Distro scripts.
