La Pondation de Félicie is an animal-protection association and sanctuary based in Le Mesnil-Thomas, France. Founded in February 2016 as a nonprofit association under French law, it focuses on rescuing laying hens before they are sent to slaughter. The hens are cared for at the sanctuary and offered for adoption to families who agree to look after them for the rest of their lives, giving them the chance to enjoy a safe and comfortable retirement.
The organization also helps prospective adopters understand the commitment involved. Its website provides a guide for adopters, a hen-welfare charter, information about the adoption contract, and details of adoption fees. Through its story of Félicie, a former laying hen, the association explains what can happen to hens when their egg production declines and encourages people to learn about their lives in different types of farming systems.
La Pondation de Félicie welcomes visitors by appointment at its address in Le Mesnil-Thomas and shares updates through its blog.
