Gracie Humaita at Carrillo’s Martial Arts Academy in Poplar Bluff teaches Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a practical martial art for self-defense, fitness, and personal development. The academy offers classes for children, juniors, and adults, welcoming students of different ages, experience levels, and fitness backgrounds. Training combines warm-ups, stretching, repeated technique drills, and optional sparring, helping students build skills progressively and apply them with training partners.

Programs emphasize leverage and technique rather than relying on physical strength, while supporting confidence, focus, discipline, stress relief, and physical conditioning. Children’s classes are designed to help students develop self-defense skills without teaching punches or kicks, alongside listening, social skills, self-control, coordination, and respect. Women are welcome in all classes, and tournament participation is encouraged but never required. Students can train with a gi and develop skills for both gi and no-gi practice. The academy also offers private lessons, including introductory instruction, and provides a friendly, family-style environment.
