POPNET is an innovative digital infrastructure and research community dedicated to unlocking longitudinal social network data from the entire population of the Netherlands for academic research. This pioneering initiative aims to facilitate research into significant social issues, including segregation and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, through an ethical and anonymized approach. POPNET is in the process of developing a state-of-the-art research infrastructure, tailored specifically for large-scale social network analysis, which utilizes advanced computational tools to explore the complexity of the Dutch population.

With a focus on collaboration across various disciplines—such as social sciences, mathematics, computer science, and biology—POPNET seeks to foster a multidisciplinary environment that emphasizes understanding social resilience. The project is structured in phases: currently in Phase 1 (2021-2022), which involves data development, followed by pilot research between 2022-2024.
