Porlock Weir Gig Club is a community rowing club based on the West Somerset coast, near Exmoor and about 1.5 miles west of Porlock village. Founded in 2018 by Ben Allerton, the club was established to bring the growing traditional sport of pilot gig rowing to the area. It began using a training gig borrowed from Boscastle Pilot Gig Club, helping newcomers experience the sport and take part in on-water training. The club quickly attracted interest and had more than 40 members within its first year.
Porlock Weir Gig Club welcomes people of all ages and abilities, including those who have never rowed before. Prospective rowers are invited to come along and try gig rowing, and the club provides information about membership and getting started. Its activities include training and participation in regattas and other gig rowing events. The club also shares news, photographs, safety guidance, weather and tide information, and details about its boats and club kit. Porlock Weir Pilot Gig Club is a registered charity.
