About Portail lexical
The ATILF Lexical Portal is a French-language resource developed by the ATILF research laboratory, associated with the CNRS and the University of Lorraine. It brings together dictionaries and linguistic resources in one place, helping users explore French words, meanings, usage, and history. The portal provides access to the Trésor de la Langue Française, Wiktionnaire, the dictionary of the Académie Française, Littré, and the Dictionary of Middle French.
It also features research-based resources covering synonyms, antonyms, word families, proxemic relationships, proverbs, and the historical development of words. Visitors can browse entries alphabetically or search for vocabulary, expressions, and other language information. The site also highlights a word of the day and offers features related to definitions, etymology, grammar, and verb conjugation.
Sections for help, settings, and extensions support the use of the portal. By combining established dictionaries with materials from research projects, ATILF’s portal offers a broad reference point for exploring the French language. It notes that some entries may contain words considered offensive
