The 3rd Annual Dragon Boat Race Festival will be held at the harbor of Port Jefferson Village on Saturday, September 17, 2016. This exciting event brings together local and regional teams to compete against each other in a series of races. Novice teams are provided with instruction and all the necessary equipment to participate.
Spectators are encouraged to join in the festivities by bringing their lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the races. Throughout the day, there will be food vendors and music to keep the event lively. The festival is focused on community involvement and charitable giving, making it a great opportunity to support a good cause.
Dragon boat racing has a rich history and is based on the legend of the ancient patriot-poet Qu Yuan. The Greater Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce, a 100-year-old organization, hosts the event as part of their mission to promote economic development and commerce in the community.
