About Porto Alegre Mal Assombrada
Porto Alegre Mal Assombrada is a cultural tourism project offering macabre walking experiences that explore the hidden histories and atmosphere of Porto Alegre, Brazil. Originating as private walks led by researcher and artist André Neto, the project began welcoming the public in 2019. Its route connects seven locations selected through Tarot symbolism, weaving together the city’s history, mysteries, and cultural memory. Rather than relying on jump scares or horror spectacle, the experience emphasizes research, storytelling, and sensitivity, inviting participants to reflect on the city and their own perceptions.
The project offers adult group walks, private tours, and a children’s version called Piazada, led by a tourism guide. Stories draw on local crimes, legends, and mysteries, presented in the settings of the historic center. Porto Alegre Mal Assombrada is supported by a team that includes researcher and storyteller André Neto, producer Martina Mombelli, and guide Juliana Peixoto. The project also connects with Café Mal Assombrado POA, a cultural space in Porto Alegre, and shares its work through events, routes, books, and audiovisual productions.
