Positive Life Festival is a cultural and educational initiative launched by the CHUV Infectious Diseases Outpatient Clinic in Switzerland. Its mission is to challenge ignorance about HIV and encourage more nuanced, contemporary representations of life with the virus. People living with HIV contribute to the festival from its planning through to its delivery, helping ensure that their experiences inform its work.
Working with health, cultural, academic and community partners, the festival creates events and activities throughout the year. Its programme includes film screenings, artistic performances, workshops and science outreach for the public and school communities. These activities explore both the personal realities of living with HIV and the wider social and political contexts affecting people who live with, or may contract, the virus. The festival also promotes understanding of treatment advances, including the principle that an undetectable viral load means HIV cannot be transmitted, while addressing stigma and discrimination.
In 2023, Positive Life Festival presented original short films at Lausanne’s Cinéma CityClub, following an open call for creative projects.
