Positive About Down Syndrome (PADS) is a Down Syndrome UK initiative created by parents to support parents and parents-to-be. The organisation offers accurate, contemporary information and practical, compassionate help to families welcoming a child with Down syndrome. Its online support groups connect new and expectant parents across the UK, including Great Expectations for those who have received a high-chance or confirmed result. PADS also shares honest personal stories and photos from people with Down syndrome, their families and friends, helping challenge outdated perceptions and show everyday experiences.
Resources include #NobodyToldMe, a book of personal accounts available to read online or purchase in paperback, as well as information packs for families and nurseries. The organisation runs online early development groups for preschool children, baby Makaton signing courses for new parents, and Makaton training for nurseries and childminders. It also provides counselling and resources and training for maternity units. PADS promotes celebration, inclusion and opportunities for every child with Down syndrome to flourish, while helping families find local support groups and relevant events.
