PostboxMap

PostboxMap. co. uk is an open-source project dedicated to creating a comprehensive mapping platform for postboxes in the United Kingdom, with a particular focus on those of historical significance.

This initiative aims to provide a valuable resource for postbox enthusiasts, historians, and the general public to delve into and learn about the rich postal history of the UK. Founded by Luke, who developed an interest in postboxes following the passing of Queen Victoria, PostboxMap. co.

uk seeks to document and map these iconic symbols of communication that have witnessed countless events and milestones throughout the years. The platform allows users to explore postboxes by reign, view their locations on an interactive map, and even contribute by adding missing ones. With a vision to develop an open-source database containing the location, reign, and photos of all postboxes in the UK, Luke is currently working on an accompanying web app and plans to create a mobile app for easier submissions and identification.

The project invites contributors from all walks of life, whether they are developers, historians, photographers, or simply postbox enthusiasts. Collaboration is made possible through GitHub, and the project's data is accessible via an API for further innovation. PostboxMap.

co. uk offers an interactive map as its main feature, enabling users to explore postboxes from different historical periods and reigns. Each postbox on the map is accompanied by relevant information, including its location, date, and an image.

Furthermore, the project provides a platform for users to contribute by submitting information and images of postboxes that are not yet included in the map. As an open-source initiative, PostboxMap. co.

uk encourages bug reports, feature requests, and code contributions. In addition, users can help improve the project by contributing to its documentation and spreading the word among other postbox enthusiasts and history lovers.
