About Pottery Basalt
Basalt Pottery & Shop is a pottery studio and shop in The Hague, creating locally made, handmade porcelain. For more than 35 years, ceramicist Thomas de Roo has shaped porcelain on the potter’s wheel, decorated each piece and fired it in the studio. The finished tableware is durable, dishwasher-safe and distinguished by clear colours and recognisable designs—functional art made for everyday use.
The collection includes dinnerware such as plates, cups, bowls, mugs, espresso cups and teapots, as well as vases and serving dishes. Basalt also makes distinctive porcelain items including tiles, decorative knobs for doors, cabinets and drawers, lamps and seasonal Christmas ornaments. Custom orders can feature a personal text or decoration, making them suitable as gifts or corporate presents.
Customers can browse selected products through the online shop or visit Basalt’s shop and workshop at Spui 222–230 in The Hague. The studio also offers pottery courses and workshops for individuals, groups and organisations, with sessions for up to 16 participants.
