Prairie Chickens Forever

Prairie Chickens Forever is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to increasing awareness and knowledge of prairie chickens while supporting ranchers and landowners in improving the long-term sustainability of their agricultural operations. Its conservation mission focuses on helping landowners create habitat and protect prairie chicken leks, or booming grounds, through voluntary land-management practices and financial assistance.

The organization shares information about prairie chicken species, their courtship displays, nesting needs, and the habitat conditions that support their survival. Its guidance covers practices such as rotational grazing, moderate stocking rates, patch-burn grazing, maintaining varied grass heights, and replacing smooth bromegrass with suitable native grasses. Prairie Chickens Forever also provides educational resources and links to conservation guidance for Greater, Lesser, and Attwater’s Prairie Chickens and Sharp-tailed Grouse.

Ranchers and landowners can explore participation options and contact the organization to learn about habitat support or property eligibility. Donations help offset land-maintenance costs, compensate ranchers who voluntarily reduce livestock numbers, and preserve prairie chicken nesting areas.
