Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) is a public power utility serving Nebraska and supporting the state’s energy needs through a diverse generation mix. The district provides customer services that include bill payment, payment arrangements, starting or stopping service, rate information, financial assistance, and outage reporting. It also offers programs and resources to help customers save energy, including EnergyWise incentives and electric vehicle incentives, alongside energy education and community initiatives.
Wind power is an important part of NPPD’s energy portfolio, supplementing baseload generation despite its variable output. NPPD built Nebraska’s first wind-energy generation facility west of Springview in 1998 and has continued to participate in wind development. Its Ainsworth Wind Energy Facility has a capacity of 60 megawatts, while NPPD also purchases power from several facilities across the state, including projects near Broken Bow, Crofton, Bloomfield, Petersburg, and southeastern Nebraska. The district resells purchased wind generation to other utilities, less its own share. NPPD also provides information about wind generation, energy resources, safety, and service interruptions.
