About Prats de Sournia
Prats de Sournia is a small village and municipality in the Pyrénées-Orientales region of southern France, known as the “Balcony of Fenouillèdes” for its sweeping views of the Corbières, the Mediterranean coast and Mount Canigou. Set at 640 metres on a rocky rise, the village welcomes visitors to stroll its largely pedestrian lanes and discover its Occitan roots and links with Northern Catalonia. A major landmark is the exceptionally well-preserved eleventh-century signal tower, recently renovated and open to visitors.
Around 50 kilometres from both the coast and ski resorts, Prats de Sournia is a base for exploring the surrounding landscape and nearby Cathar country. Village facilities include a supervised, equipped 200-square-metre municipal swimming pool, tennis and football courts, pétanque areas, children’s play areas, a reception hall and a summer community centre. Visitors can also use picnic areas with tables, benches and a barbecue, and choose from communal and private gîtes.
The municipal website shares local news, public-service information, weather updates and a live panoramic webcam
