PostalReg. Commission is an independent agency that has been overseeing the operations of the Postal Service since its establishment in 1970. With expanded responsibilities under the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006, the Commission plays a vital role in regulatory oversight.
To efficiently carry out its duties, the Commission is comprised of five Commissioners, with expertise in various fields, appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. These Commissioners serve for a term of six years and work to ensure that the Postal Service functions effectively and meets its obligations. The Commission operates through several offices that focus on different aspects of its work.
The Office of Accountability & Compliance is responsible for technical analysis, making policy recommendations, and dealing with rate changes and international postal matters. The Office of General Counsel provides legal assistance and manages the formal complaint process. The Office of Public Affairs & Government Relations facilitates communication with various stakeholders, while the Office of Secretary & Administration handles administrative tasks.
