PREDICT, a pioneering initiative under USAID’s Emerging Pandemic Threats (EPT) program since 2009, focuses on enhancing global capacities for detecting viruses that pose pandemic threats. With significant contributions to surveillance and laboratory diagnostic efforts, PREDICT has played a critical role in identifying both known and emerging viruses, such as filoviruses and coronaviruses, in over 30 countries, primarily in Africa and Asia.

Central to PREDICT's mission is the One Health Surveillance approach, fostering collaboration across various disciplines to address infectious disease risks at the animal-human interface. This program has trained more than 6,800 individuals in the One Health Workforce, establishing robust systems for safe viral detection.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, PREDICT was extended to provide vital technical and logistical support globally. Through partnerships with leading organizations, including EcoHealth Alliance and the Wildlife Conservation Society, PREDICT has upheld high standards of biosafety and information sharing to prepare for future health threats, establishing itself as a leader in pandemic preparedness and response.
