Founded in 1990, INERIS is an EPIC (French public research body of an industrial and commercial character), under the aegis of the French Ministry for Ecology, Sustainable Development and Spatial Planning. INERIS mission is to carry out or commission studies and research programmes aimed at preventing the risks brought about by economic activities on health, the safety of persons and property and on the environment, and to provide any services intended to facilitate the adaptation of companies with this objective in mind.

PREV’AIR is a national platform dedicated to air quality forecasting in France, established in 2003 to enhance the monitoring and management of airborne pollutants. Operated by INERIS in collaboration with renowned institutions such as Météo France and CNRS, PREV’AIR offers daily forecasts of key air pollutants including ozone, nitrogen dioxide, and particulate matter PM10 and PM2.5, extending predictions from the current day to five days ahead.
The platform provides users with real-time updates on pollution episodes and environmental vigilance through its Vigilance Atmosphérique application. In addition to forecast services, PREV’AIR+ offers access to historical data for deeper insights into air quality trends. With over 500 monitoring stations across the nation and generating approximately three terabytes of data daily, PREV’AIR plays a vital role in public health and environmental protection by informing citizens and authorities about air quality levels and warning them about pollution spikes.
