PreventOverdose is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Avon, Connecticut, focused on preventing overdose deaths and supporting communities affected by substance use. Its mission is to provide free Narcan, share practical harm reduction education, and advocate for policies that expand access to overdose prevention and addiction treatment.

The organization offers free nasal naloxone kits with no identification or questions required, helping make this lifesaving medication more accessible. It also provides information on recognizing an overdose, administering Narcan, giving rescue breaths, and staying with someone until emergency help arrives. In-person training sessions are available for schools, workplaces, and community groups. A free online certification course is in development.

PreventOverdose also works to reduce stigma that can discourage people from carrying naloxone and supports policies that improve access to medication and treatment. The nonprofit is newly launched and is developing its training curriculum and distribution efforts. It shares published overdose statistics from the CDC and Connecticut’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, with links to source data.
