About Priaulx Library
The Priaulx Library, established in 1889, is a renowned institution dedicated to collecting, cataloguing, and preserving records, artefacts, and books that document the rich history of Guernsey. Nestled in the picturesque Candie Gardens, the library is housed in Candie House, a beautiful Georgian townhouse donated by Osmond de Beauvoir Priaulx to the people of Guernsey. The library's collections include a wide range of materials such as English, French, and German literature from the nineteenth century, family history resources, maps, prints, drawings, rare books, photographs, newspapers, and even records on occult, witchcraft, and folklore.
The library aims to make its collection easily accessible and welcomes public visitors to explore its archives and also provides online access to its collections through the Guernsey Libraries catalogue. In addition to lending and reference services, the library offers research and reproduction services. With its diverse and extensive holdings, the Priaulx Library is a valuable resource for scholars, authors, genealogists, and history enthusiasts alike
