The Association of Primate Veterinarians (APV) is an international organization dedicated to the health, care, and welfare of nonhuman primates (NHPs). With over 400 veterinarians as members, APV has been actively working towards its mission since its inception in 1973. Originally founded by a group of attendees at the Workshop in the Clinical Care of Nonhuman Primates in 1973, the organization became formally recognized as the Association of Primate Veterinary Clinicians in 1979.
In 1983, the name was changed to the Association of Primate Veterinarians to better reflect its objectives. APV's membership consists of veterinarians who provide and oversee care for various NHP species in research facilities, universities, zoos, breeders, and importers. The organization aims to promote the sharing of information on the health, care, and welfare of nonhuman primates, advocate for the collective voice of primate veterinarians, and foster fellowship within the community.
APV offers educational resources, guidance documents, webinars, workshops, and career opportunities to its members. For inquiries, contact the Association of Primate Veterinarians at Crestwyn Hills Drive, Memphis, TN
