About Prism Pipeline
Prism Pipeline is a renowned brand in the CG production industry, offering a comprehensive range of products and services to manage data effectively. Developed by Pixar and trusted by major animation and visual effects studios, their flagship product, Universal Scene Description (USD), revolutionizes data management in CG productions. With USD, users can store geometry, materials, cameras, lights, and more in a universal format that can be seamlessly shared across various modern digital content creation tools.
Prism Pipeline provides the Prism USD plugin, which allows users to harness the power of USD within their Prism workflow. The plugin can be easily installed during the Prism installation setup or added later via the Prism Hub. The brand offers extensive documentation and support to guide users through the USD workflow.
Prism Pipeline's solutions are not limited to a single software. In Houdini, users can leverage Prism's import and export nodes to seamlessly integrate USD data into their projects. Similarly, in Maya, Prism supports both the Autodesk USD plugin and the Multiverse plugin.
Users can choose their preferred plugin and effortlessly work with USD files. Prism Pipeline aims to continuously evolve and expand its support for more DCCs (Digital Content Creation tools) and their USD integrations in the future. However, even for DCCs that do not support USD yet, Prism provides the flexibility to export alembic and obj files, which can be referenced in USD files to take advantage of the USD workflow.
To enhance visualization capabilities, Prism Pipeline offers various Hydra delegates. These delegates enable users to render, playblast, and view USD scenes natively within Prism. Popular Hydra delegates supported by Prism include GL (Storm), 3Delight, AMD Readon Pro Render (RPR), and Autodesk Arnold.
