PROAmazonía is a comprehensive program aimed at reducing deforestation in Ecuador's Amazon region. The program works in collaboration with key economic sectors of the country to set priorities and policies that promote sustainable management of natural resources, contributing to poverty eradication and sustainable human development. PROAmazonía focuses on conserving and sustainably using forests through a landscape approach.

The program emphasizes the importance of coordinated efforts between the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, and other institutions such as Autonomous Decentralized Governments to address deforestation and climate change. PROAmazonía strengthens territorial planning and life plans by integrating conservation, sustainable production, climate change, gender, and interculturality. PROAmazonía supports the transition to sustainable production systems, aiming to transform traditional production systems into sustainable agroproductive systems, free from deforestation.

It also focuses on sustainable forest management, conservation, and restoration, recognizing forests as a natural solution to climate change. Additionally, PROAmazonía provides support for the implementation of REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) in Ecuador, facilitating reporting to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The program promotes coordinated efforts among various institutions and supports the establishment of financial mechanisms to channel REDD+ resources and engage the private sector.

With its diverse interventions and focus on involvement and capacity building, PROAmazonía is dedicated to achieving sustainable and inclusive development in the Amazon region of Ecuador
