RapidProtein by Prohm is an early-stage research initiative exploring how human-guided AI could support protein research. Its ambition is to connect computational design, experimental testing and evidence-driven iteration in an end-to-end research lab, with people setting goals and making consequential decisions. The current offering is a local prototype for model exploration, using ProLLaMA, ESMC and AF2, alongside visual concepts that help explain a proposed research workflow.
The team describes five conceptual roles—planning, design, evaluation, experiment planning and evidence review—but these are not validated autonomous systems. Bounded orchestration is under development, and a validated end-to-end run has not been established. RapidProtein reports no wet-lab results or therapeutic validation; model predictions and visualizations are not evidence of efficacy or safety.
The project’s motivation is to advance research that may contribute to healthier lives, while emphasizing human oversight, transparent uncertainty, safety and privacy. Founded by Zachary Lafer and Byron Lee, RapidProtein grew from a shared interest in visualizing proteins in virtual reality and is building toward a research-focused future, not offering a medical product
