About BANTU Ph
BANTU Philippines is a brand that uses the art of Capoeira Angola to empower vulnerable children and young people in the Philippines. Through their programs and interventions, they help develop important behavioral and social skills while teaching critical thinking. BANTU's mission is to fight poverty by empowering at-risk youth, their families, and their communities.
Capoeira, recognized as an example of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, is a multi-faceted art that combines music, dance, acrobatics, mock-combat, and game. It originated in the 16th century as a resistance movement for enslaved Africans in Brazil. BANTU Ph, founded in 2012, was initially a small project to teach behavioral skills to 10 youth living on the streets through Capoeira.
Over time, it has grown into a social movement involving hundreds of children from Manila's poorest slum communities. BANTU offers various programs, including Capoeira4Change (C4C), where Capoeira is used to achieve specific behavioral outcomes and teach critical thinking. They also have the BANTU Leadership Academy (BLAC), which prepares youth for employment by developing essential skills and connecting them with work professionals.
Additionally, their Each One Teach One Exchange Program (EOTO) pairs at-risk adolescents with younger children, providing mentorship opportunities and practical application of skills learned in Capoeira classes. By partnering with BANTU, you can contribute to empowering the youth and building a better future for the Philippines and the world
