Projeto Kavanah

Kavanah is a student-led medical extension project at the Albert Einstein Faculty of Health Sciences (FICSAE) in Brazil. Its purpose is to expand access to high-quality healthcare through the public health system, particularly in municipalities facing long waits for surgery. The project organizes entirely volunteer-led surgical campaigns for elective procedures of low and medium complexity, helping connect patients with specialized care while supporting local health services.

Founded by medical students, Kavanah is managed by undergraduate students in medicine and nursing, with academic and medical coordination from faculty and physicians. It also receives operational support from medical professionals and professors at the faculty and the clinical staff of Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein.

Kavanah combines patient care with education and collaboration. Its work encourages local services to improve internal processes and share current knowledge and good practices. For participating students, the project offers experience in volunteering, surgical learning, teamwork, empathy, and leadership. Through its annual expeditions, Kavanah aims to bring communities, healthcare teams, and students together around more accessible and effective care.
