About Pro-Poor Tourism in Kenya
The African Pro-Poor Tourism Development Centre (APTDC) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) in Kenya dedicated to poverty alleviation, environmental conservation, health, education, and water sanitation. As an NGO, APTDC utilizes tourism and partnerships to enhance socioeconomic development and improve the wellbeing of vulnerable populations. APTDC focuses on various areas such as community-based tourism enterprise, disease awareness creation, environmental conservation, education infrastructure development, and youth empowerment programs.
They work towards long-term solutions to poverty, environmental degradation, and infrastructural deficits in the education sector. APTDC aims to address the tourism benefit gap, ensuring that the local communities receive social, economic, and environmental benefits from the tourism sector. Supported by the tourism sector and development funding agencies, APTDC follows the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) steps to contribute to sustainable rural development.
Their core values include transparency, fairness, honesty, integrity, trustworthiness, cooperation, humility, adaptability, and inclusivity. APTDC's mission is to mobilize local and foreign resources through communication, networks, and partnerships to eliminate social and economic poverty among communities. Their vision is to have socially and economically developed local communities in tourist destinations in Kenya.
APTDC's organizational objectives involve contributing to a sustainable natural environment, enhanced access to universal health care services, poverty alleviation, community tourism developments, and infrastructural developments for basic education access. Contact APTDC at Nairobi Central Business District, Koinange Street UniAfric House, 1st Floor Room 112. Call +254722566725 or +254727031228 or email info@propoortourism-kenya.
