About ProtectDefenders.eu
ProtectDefenders. eu is the European Union Human Rights Defenders mechanism, led by a Consortium of 12 NGOs including Front Line Defenders, Reporters Without Borders, and The World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT). Our mission is to protect defenders at high risk worldwide by providing urgent assistance, temporary relocation, and practical support.
We also facilitate the creation of shelters for HRDs and coordinate an exchange platform for stakeholders working on temporary relocation. In addition, we offer training, financial support, and capacity-building to Human Rights Defenders and local organizations. This includes the Canada Resettlement Scheme, where we advise the Canadian Government on human rights defenders at risk and make referrals for consideration for resettlement under the Refugee Stream for Afghan Human Rights Defenders.
