The Coalition to Protect America's Regional Airports is dedicated to safeguarding the interests of regional airports and their surrounding communities. Since 1987, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) has managed Reagan National (DCA) and Dulles International Airports (IAD) as a single system with specific roles for each. The entity oversees the slot and perimeter rules that were created in the 1960s to regulate flights in and out of DCA and to ensure access to the nation’s capital for regional airports. Changing these rules poses a risk to regional airports' economic viability, job prospects, and local investments. Such changes also threaten airline safety.

The Coalition believes that operational decisions at airports should be made by airport authorities in tandem with local communities and lawmakers. The proposed changes could lead to more noise, congestion, and delays, ultimately affecting local economies and the safety and convenience of air travel. Furthermore, there is concern that div ersions from IAD to DCA could lead to significant job loss and a negative economic impact on Northern Virginia. The organization is committed to working with legislators and communities to promote safer and more sustainable air travel.
